Got a chance to sneak away to the cabin after the new year. So far 2015 proves to be COLD…really cold!!!! Just look at this screen shot I took the night before I left. That means the wind chill must have been -35F:0
Back up a few days. I showed up and it had snowed at the cabin…..followed by rain which froze on top. The shiny ice was really pretty.
I took down the Christmas wreath and put up this one. Isn’t it cute? A friend of ours made it and I put it up as a reminder to keep warm with a glass of cabernet on these cold winter nights.
We found a nice place to slow down for a day and do some snow tubing. Great Glen Trails is at the base of Mt. Washington and they drive you over to the foot of the auto road and you hike over to a field, grab a tube and go! You do have to hike your tube back up the hill but THANK GOODNESS!!!!! Hiking up that hill was the only thing keeping us warm!!!! It was a balmy 10F that day with a wind whipping off the mountains. We actually stayed for over two hours and headed back to the cabin after 3PM as the sun was already disappearing behind the mountains. A fun day though! Here are some pictures!
The wind was so strong it ripped the zipper open on my ski parka and I spent the rest of the evening putting the zipper back together again.
Huck Finn had some work to do for school so what better way than with a mug of hot chocolate!
We stayed a few days and then began the long drive homeward bound. On our way out, we stopped for a half day of skiing at King Pine Ski Area. We skied for four hours and got out of there before the big crowds came. A great day!

So cool!!! I remember coming here as a kid. The sun beats on the mountain all morning, making it perfect skiing on colder days.
All in all a great start to the new year.
Ciao for now
